Cosmic Calls

Goosebumps skitter down my spine at the thought of seeing you again. It’s been many millenniums since we’ve seen you, so where are you? I’m sure you remember us here. You’ve been here before, remember? You walked barefoot on the sand that turned to glass. You showed us how to build, so we built towers to reach you. You showed us how to eat from the land, but we went on to hunt our own. The one thing I fear more than seeing you again, is never seeing you. We’ve met many times, we are constantly meeting. I saw you after that wave rolled me under its surface. My crystalline lenses refracted the image of your face as you sucked the ocean water out of my pores. You had dark skin, and strands of golden silk that draped from your scalp. Your emerald eyes, all nine of them, twisted and shifted to gather your surroundings. You didn’t want to be seen. You whispered to me, but I can’t remember what it was. Maybe it was goodbye.
